About this design
Stitch shows a small blue creature with large pink ears, arms raised and mouth wide open in a big grin. Bold black outlines, a light grey tummy and flat blue areas give it a clear cartoon look that still reads well at a small size. At 61 × 70 mm and eight colours, it stitches out in about eighteen minutes.
It works nicely on a baby bodysuit, a bib, a pencil case or the pocket of a child's sweatshirt. On knit fabrics, use a cut-away stabiliser and a water-soluble topping so the black outlines stay crisp. A pale background, natural or light grey, suits this machine embroidery well.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 8 threads: sky blue, pale pink, light grey, burgundy, black, navy, white, black. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: sky blue → pale pink → light grey → burgundy → black → navy → white → black → sky blue → light grey → white. The machine stops at each thread change (10 changes, 25 trims).
- Allow about 18 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 8,707 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
