About this design

Teddy bear on the moon shows a little brown bear fast asleep, curled inside a cream crescent moon. Closed eyes, soft brown outlines and grey stars around it make a gentle scene, drawn with simple rounded lines in a children's book spirit. At 70 × 69 mm and four colours, it stitches out quickly.

It works nicely on a bib, a bodysuit, a flat comfort blanket or a small nursery cushion. On jersey, use a cut-away stabiliser and a water-soluble topping so the outlines stay crisp. A natural or very pale blue background shows off the cream tones of this machine embroidery design.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 4 threads: cream, light grey, brown, white. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: cream → light grey → brown → white → brown → white → cream. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 31 trims).
  4. Allow about 19 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 10,676 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
