A patch is a sequence, not a picture

A patch stitched on twill is made in four steps the machine must run in order: a placement line stitched on the stabiliser alone to show where to lay the fabric, a machine stop to lay the twill, a tack-down line that holds it, then the design and the satin border that covers the cut edge. Broderly generates this full sequence with the stop in the right place and the border last; on a multi-head, the stop is noted on the machine sheet.

  1. Drop the logo (or start from text alone). Pick the shape: rounded rectangle, circle or oval, shield, hexagon, diamond, or an outline that follows the logo.
  2. Width, height, border. 5 to 10 cm in one click; the satin border is 3 mm by default, its colour and width adjustable; the stitched background is optional (useless on coloured twill).
  3. Text top and bottom, arched and curved, in any font.
  4. Export the machine file and, for plotter or laser cutting, the cut line as SVG or DXF.

Frequently asked questions

Which fabric for a patch?

Polyester twill is the reference: stable, barely frays, in every colour. Felt suits soft patches; leather and faux leather need a denser border.

How do I make it iron-on?

Stitch on twill pre-backed with heat-seal film, or apply the film after cutting. The design does not change.

How many stitches for an 8 cm patch?

6,000 to 15,000 depending on background and logo. The stitched background alone is half the stitches: remove it when the twill already has the right colour.
