About this design

Heart with border shows a solid heart stitched in pale pink, framed by a second outline in a deeper pink that sits slightly apart from it. The lines are even and the shape perfectly symmetrical: a simple, graphic style that reads well on a light background as much as on a bright colour. At 67 × 60 mm and two threads, it stitches out in about eight minutes.

It suits a bib, a zip pouch, a tote bag or the corner of a tea towel. On jersey or towelling, use a cut-away stabiliser so the fill does not pull. On white or cream fabric the two pinks keep all their contrast. A classic of machine embroidery.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 2 threads: pale pink, pink. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: pale pink → pink. The machine stops at each thread change (1 change, 1 trim).
  4. Allow about 8 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 5,592 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
