About this design
Pink birthday cake shows a two-tier cake covered with salmon icing that drips down over the white sides, with a wavy pink band around the lower tier. Two lit yellow candles stand on top, surrounded by small round confetti and short blue, red and black dashes. The bold outline and plain colours give it an illustrated look, close to a children's book drawing.
At 65 × 70 mm, it suits a bib, a snack pouch or a kitchen towel. On jersey, use a cut-away stabiliser; an off-white or pale blue background brings out the pink in this machine embroidery.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 6 threads: salmon, white, red, yellow, sky blue, black. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: salmon → white → red → yellow → sky blue → black → white. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 29 trims).
- Allow about 19 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 10,883 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
