About this design
Pink birthday cake shows a three-tier cake on a pale plate: pink icing dripping over white layers, small burgundy beads along the edges, and three lit candles on top. Round confetti in red, turquoise and yellow floats all around. The dark outlines and clear, flat colours give it an illustrated look, close to a children's book drawing.
At 67 × 70 mm it suits a bib, a zip pouch, a kitchen towel or a birthday cushion. Pick a plain, light background so the pink stands out, and use a cut-away stabiliser under stretchy jersey, as this machine embroidery is fairly dense.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 7 threads: white, salmon, red, turquoise, yellow, pale pink, burgundy. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: white → salmon → red → turquoise → yellow → pale pink → burgundy → yellow → white. The machine stops at each thread change (8 changes, 46 trims).
- Allow about 24 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 12,783 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
