About this design
Coffee cup shows a striped salmon-and-cream cup on an oval saucer, filled with dark brown coffee, with long spirals of steam curling above it. The brown outline is slightly uneven, which gives the whole thing a hand-drawn, friendly feel.
At 64 × 70 mm, it sits nicely on a kitchen towel, a pouch, a tote bag or a small cushion for your reading corner. On a medium cotton, a cut-away stabiliser on the back is enough to keep the stripes crisp. A natural or light grey background suits this machine embroidery design, letting the salmon and brown show without looking harsh.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 5 threads: white, brown, salmon, white, cream. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: white → brown → salmon → white → cream → brown → cream → salmon → white. The machine stops at each thread change (8 changes, 41 trims).
- Allow about 17 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 8,052 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
