About this design

Round Spirals Border shows a golden diagonal stem lined with eight spiral rosettes, each outlined in gold and filled with salmon on a white ground. A few small turquoise leaves punctuate the stem, giving a graphic, decorative look close to traditional borders.

This 69 mm square sits nicely in the corner of a tea towel or hand towel, on a pouch, or repeated along a cushion. On linen or medium cotton, a tear-away stabiliser is enough for this machine embroidery; choose a light background, ecru or soft grey, so the white in the spirals stays visible.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 4 threads: white, gold, salmon, turquoise. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: white → gold → white → salmon → turquoise → gold → salmon. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 63 trims).
  4. Allow about 15 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 6,440 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
