About this design

Scroll Points Border shows a branch set on the diagonal: a sage green stem with spiralling scrolls, pointed leaves and small berries, along with two cream flowers with rounded petals. A fine black outline traces every shape and gives the design the look of an old engraving, leafy and graphic at once. At 70 × 70 mm, it sits neatly in a corner.

It works well on a kitchen towel, a linen pouch or the corner of a cushion cover. On lighter fabric, add a cut-away stabiliser at the back so the scrolls keep their clean curve. A natural or pale grey background brings out the sage green, and this machine embroidery stitches out quickly.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 3 threads: sage green, cream, black. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: sage green → cream → black → sage green → cream. The machine stops at each thread change (4 changes, 43 trims).
  4. Allow about 16 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 8,733 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
