About this design
Chibi Black Cat shows a small seated cat with dark grey, almost black fur and a tail curving softly upwards. Its large cream eyes with orange pupils, salmon-pink inner ears and fine whiskers give it a curious, cartoon-like look. Bold black outlines and simple colour blocks keep the design clear, even from a distance.
At 68 × 70 mm it suits a pouch, a tote bag, a child's sweatshirt or an autumn cushion. On knits, use a cut-away stabiliser and a water-soluble topping: your machine embroidery will keep crisp edges. A light background, natural or mustard, makes the dark fur stand out nicely.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 6 threads: dark grey, cream, salmon, dark grey, salmon, black. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: dark grey → cream → salmon → dark grey → salmon → black → dark grey → dark grey → salmon. The machine stops at each thread change (8 changes, 25 trims).
- Allow about 17 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 8,764 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
