About this design

Little Chibi Ghost shows a round little spirit with a white body that ripples along the bottom like a floating sheet. Its large black eyes, small open mouth and two tiny arms make it look startled rather than scary. The bold black outline and just two colours give it a clear, cartoon-like style.

At 70 × 69 mm it suits a Halloween tote bag, a zip pouch, a baby bodysuit or a small cushion. Pick a coloured background, orange, purple or black, so the white really stands out. A cut-away stabiliser under knit fabric keeps this machine embroidery smooth and flat.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 2 threads: white, black. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: white → black → white. The machine stops at each thread change (2 changes, 22 trims).
  4. Allow about 15 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 9,340 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
