About this design

Little Witch shows a small girl with long ginger hair under a large purple pointed hat trimmed with a band and buckle. She wears a long plum dress and holds a broom with an orange handle and beige bristles. The pale face with pink cheeks and the bold outlines give a graphic, storybook look in six clearly separated colours.

At 67 × 70 mm, it suits an autumn tote bag, a school pouch or a small cushion for a child's room. On a light background, natural or soft grey, the purples stand out well. Use a cut-away stabiliser underneath: this machine embroidery is dense and the fabric stays nicely flat.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 6 threads: purple, plum, salmon, white, pink, beige. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: purple → plum → salmon → white → pink → beige → plum → salmon → beige → pink → purple. The machine stops at each thread change (10 changes, 36 trims).
  4. Allow about 22 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 11,040 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
