About this design

Little Mummy shows a small figure wrapped from head to toe in bandages, one arm reaching out and one leg lifted as if striding forward. The large dark eyes and round open mouth make it look playful rather than scary. The style is graphic and clean, with a deep brown outline that sets off the pale wrappings.

At 64 × 70 mm it suits a Halloween tote bag, a pencil case or the front of a child's sweatshirt. For machine embroidery, choose a coloured background such as orange or black so the white bandages stand out, and use a cut-away stabiliser on knit fabrics.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 3 threads: white, brown, black. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: white → brown → black → brown → white. The machine stops at each thread change (4 changes, 52 trims).
  4. Allow about 21 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 12,028 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
