About this design

Smiling Pumpkin shows a plump orange pumpkin with fine ribbing lines and a curved green stem. The carved face grins widely: two black oval eyes, a triangular nose and an open mouth with a few pointed teeth. A clean black outline frames everything, in a simple illustrated style that feels friendly rather than frightening.

At 68 × 69 mm, it suits a small trick-or-treat tote bag, an autumn tea towel, a zip pouch or the front of a child's sweatshirt. On knit fabric, use a cut-away stabiliser, and choose a light or black background so the orange of your machine embroidery really stands out.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 5 threads: orange, black, sage green, gold, black. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: orange → black → sage green → gold → black → gold → orange → sage green. The machine stops at each thread change (7 changes, 27 trims).
  4. Allow about 21 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 11,862 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
