About this design

Funny Skull shows a small character with an oversized skull head, big round black eyes and a wide grin with neatly lined-up teeth. He wears a dark hooded jacket with a red collar, hands tucked in the pockets, standing on two short legs. Everything is outlined in thick black, in a clearly cartoon style, with flat white and light grey areas.

At 64 × 70 mm, it suits a Halloween tote bag, a zip pouch or the front of a child's sweatshirt. On knits, use a cut-away stabiliser and choose a light background: the white and grey read better than in machine embroidery on dark fabric.

How to stitch it

Prepare 4 threads: white, black, red, light grey. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
Stitch the colours in this order: white → black → red → black → white → light grey → red. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 42 trims).
Allow about 20 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 10,638 stitches in all.
For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
