About this design
Cuddly Bat flies with both wings spread wide, a plum-coloured body, pale pink wings, big shiny eyes, a tiny tongue peeking out and a few small stars scattered around. The look is round and cartoon-like, with a clear outline that keeps every shape crisp.
At 66 × 67 mm it sits nicely on a baby bodysuit, a bib, a pencil case or a small trick-or-treat bag. Choose a light or plain background, pearl grey or soft ochre, so the plum really shows. On jersey, a light cut-away stabiliser is enough to keep your machine embroidery smooth after washing.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 5 threads: pale pink, plum, white, navy, pale pink. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: pale pink → plum → white → navy → pale pink → navy → plum → white. The machine stops at each thread change (7 changes, 46 trims).
- Allow about 19 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 9,946 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
