About this design

Funny Skull shows a round little skull drawn with thick black outlines, big dark eyes, an open jaw with a few teeth, and three small salmon hearts floating around it. The style is cartoon-like, clear and friendly rather than scary, at 70 × 68 mm in just three colours.

It works nicely on a Halloween tote bag, a pencil case, a sweatshirt or a sofa cushion. Pick a light or medium background so the off-white skull stands out, and use a cut-away stabiliser under stretchy fabrics such as sweatshirt fleece: your machine embroidery will keep crisp, steady outlines.

How to stitch it

Prepare 3 threads: white, black, salmon. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
Stitch the colours in this order: white → black → salmon → black → white. The machine stops at each thread change (4 changes, 42 trims).
Allow about 21 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 11,902 stitches in all.
