About this design

Paw print shows a paw seen from below: one large central pad and four oval toe pads, each topped with a small grey claw. The shapes are filled in soft pink, outlined in dark grey and framed by a white border that lifts the design off the fabric. A simple, graphic style measuring 62 × 69 mm in four colours.

It works nicely on a bib, a walking tote bag or a cushion for the dog's basket. On stretchy knit, such as a bodysuit or sweatshirt, use a cut-away stabiliser at the back so the outlines stay crisp. A natural or light grey background shows off the pink and the white border in machine embroidery.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 4 threads: pale pink, dark grey, white, grey. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: pale pink → dark grey → white → grey → dark grey → grey → white. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 26 trims).
  4. Allow about 11 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 5,322 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
