About this design
Fish and paw shows a stylised fish skeleton in profile: a smiling head with a round eye, a spine branching into pale pink and dark grey bones, and a wide fanned tail. Beside it sits a four-pad paw print in the same soft pink, outlined with the same freehand dark line.
At 70 × 69 mm, the design works nicely on a feeding mat, a zip pouch, a tote bag or a kitchen towel. On light cotton, a cut-away stabiliser is enough to keep the outlines crisp; add an adhesive backing if you stitch it on something stretchier. An ecru or pale grey background suits this machine embroidery well.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 4 threads: dark grey, white, pale pink, dark grey. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: dark grey → white → pale pink → dark grey → dark grey → pale pink. The machine stops at each thread change (5 changes, 42 trims).
- Allow about 14 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 7,179 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
