About this design
Cat whiskers shows a cat in profile, head tilted up, drawn in dark grey outline: the curve of the back, the raised tail and long, fine whiskers fanning upwards. The inner ears are filled in pale pink, the only touch of colour. The style is graphic and light, close to an ink sketch, with plenty of open background.
At 68 × 65 mm it suits a pouch, a cotton tote bag or a tea towel, and works nicely on the back of a sweatshirt too. Pick a plain, light fabric so the fine lines stay readable, with tear-away stabiliser under firmer cloth. A quick machine embroidery project, around five minutes.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 2 threads: dark grey, pale pink. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: dark grey → pale pink. The machine stops at each thread change (1 change, 20 trims).
- Allow about 5 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 2,355 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
