About this design
Coral Flowering Spike shows a slender, gently curving stem with long, tapered grey-green leaves and, towards the top, small open flowers with coral petals surrounded by buds still closed. The drawing stays light, with dark outlines marking the stem and petals clearly: a quiet botanical style, close to a pencil sketch.
At 62 × 70 mm it suits a kitchen towel, a linen pouch or a plain cushion cover. On lighter fabrics use a cut-away stabiliser, and choose a pale background, natural or soft grey, so the coral tones stand out. A quick piece of machine embroidery, good for a first floral project.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 4 threads: dark grey, salmon, grey, beige. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: dark grey → salmon → grey → dark grey → grey → salmon → beige. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 36 trims).
- Allow about 12 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 5,612 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
