About this design
Ghost with candle shows a small white ghost with a rounded body, arms held out and a wide open smiling mouth. On its head sits a red candle holder with a cream candle, its beige flame lit. The thick, even black outline and flat colour areas give a clear cartoon look that reads well at just 42 × 67 mm.
It suits a pencil case, a trick-or-treat tote bag or a little autumn cushion. On jersey or light cotton, use a tear-away stabiliser under the fabric; a dark background, purple or black, will make the white ghost and the flame stand out. A quick piece of machine embroidery for an evening.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 7 threads: white, black, cream, red, salmon, brown, beige. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: white → black → cream → red → salmon → brown → black → beige → white. The machine stops at each thread change (8 changes, 21 trims).
- Allow about 12 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 5,587 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
