About this design
Ghost with candle shows a small white ghost with a wavy hem, pink cheeks and big dark eyes, carrying a lit cream candle on its head. The thick plum outline and simple drawing give it a cartoon look, more cheerful than scary.
At 53 × 68 mm it works nicely on a little Halloween tote bag, a zip pouch or the front of a child's sweatshirt. On knit fabric, use a cut-away stabiliser with a water-soluble topping so the outlines stay crisp. A dark background, plum or charcoal grey, makes the white body and the golden flame of this machine embroidery stand out.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 6 threads: white, plum, cream, salmon, gold, salmon. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: white → plum → cream → salmon → plum → gold → salmon. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 19 trims).
- Allow about 13 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 6,711 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
