About this design

Frog shows a seated amphibian in profile, head turned towards you, with big round eyes and a calm little smile. The body is stitched in salmon and burgundy tones, the belly and eyes in off-white, with a few pale pink spots on the back. The dark outline and slightly uneven line give it a hand-drawn, illustrated feel.

At 67 × 70 mm, it sits nicely on a bib, the pocket of a tote bag or a small child's cushion. On stretchy knit such as a bodysuit, use a cut-away stabiliser with water-soluble film on top. A natural or soft green background shows this machine embroidery design off well.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 5 threads: salmon, white, burgundy, pale pink, salmon. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: salmon → white → burgundy → pale pink → salmon → burgundy → white → salmon. The machine stops at each thread change (7 changes, 32 trims).
  4. Allow about 19 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 10,510 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
