About this design
Koala shows a small grey koala clinging to a brown branch, eyes closed and dark grey nose clearly drawn. A few sage green leaves grow from the branch, and the round ears are filled with a soft salmon pink. The deep burgundy outline gives the whole design the look of a gentle pencil drawing.
At 68 × 70 mm it sits nicely on a bib, the front of a baby bodysuit, or a cotton comfort blanket. On stretchy knits, use a tear-away or wash-away stabiliser to suit your fabric, and pick a light background, ecru or pale blue, so the grey of this machine embroidery stays easy to read.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 6 threads: light grey, burgundy, white, salmon, sage green, dark grey. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: light grey → burgundy → white → salmon → sage green → dark grey → burgundy → sage green → salmon → light grey. The machine stops at each thread change (9 changes, 31 trims).
- Allow about 21 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 11,109 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
