About this design

Yellow Daisy shows a single bloom with pale beige petals and an orange centre, carried on a long brown stem with a closed bud, a small shoot and a few sage green leaves. The brown outline around every shape gives the design the look of an old hand-drawn illustration, calm and uncluttered.

At 68 × 69 mm it sits nicely on a tote bag, a kitchen towel, a pouch or the front of a cushion. On cotton canvas or a medium linen, a tear-away stabiliser is enough for this machine embroidery. Choose a natural or light grey background: on pure white the beige petals tend to disappear.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 5 threads: beige, sage green, orange, brown, dark green. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: beige → sage green → orange → brown → sage green → dark green → orange → beige. The machine stops at each thread change (7 changes, 39 trims).
  4. Allow about 17 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 8,277 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
