About this design
Little Smiling Ghost shows a small white spirit with a wavy, rippling sheet and two curved lines suggesting its arms. The face does all the talking: two big black eyes, an open smiling mouth and two pale pink cheeks. The strong black outline gives it a cartoon look, friendly rather than frightening.
At 68 × 70 mm, it sits nicely on a Halloween tote bag, a zip pouch, a baby bodysuit or a small cushion. Pick a coloured background, orange, purple or dark grey, so the white really shows, and use a cut-away stabiliser under stretchy fabrics for your machine embroidery.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 4 threads: white, black, black, pale pink. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: white → black → black → pale pink → black → black → white. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 26 trims).
- Allow about 18 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 9,992 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
