About this design
Sweet Little Monster shows a round, sage-green little monster with two striped horns, big round eyes, a pale belly and a few pink spots along its side. The plum outline is crisp and even, giving an illustrated, graphic look that is far more funny than frightening, ideal for a gentle Halloween.
At 55 × 69 mm it sits nicely on a bib, a tote bag pocket or the front of a small sweatshirt. Pick a plain light background, cream or pearl grey, so the sage green stands out, and use a cut-away stabiliser on knits: in machine embroidery, that is what keeps the outlines neat.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 4 threads: sage green, white, plum, pale pink. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: sage green → white → plum → pale pink → plum → white → sage green. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 35 trims).
- Allow about 19 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 10,352 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
