About this design

Sweet Little Monster shows a round green creature with two large striped horns in pink and plum, big round eyes and a wide smile. The pale belly, pink spots and plum outlines give it a gentle look, in an illustrated cartoon style that stays clear at 57 × 70 mm.

It works nicely on a baby bodysuit or bib for a first October party, on a flat comforter toy, or on a small pencil case. On stretchy knits, use a cut-away stabiliser underneath and a water-soluble film on top so the plum outlines stay crisp. A cream or mustard background brings out the sage green in this machine embroidery design.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 4 threads: sage green, white, pale pink, plum. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: sage green → white → pale pink → plum → white → sage green → pale pink. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 44 trims).
  4. Allow about 20 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 10,935 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
