About this design

Little Mummy shows a small figure wrapped from head to toe in pale bandages, one leg lifted as if striding forward. Big round eyes outlined in plum peek out between two strips, and the dark outlines trace every fold of fabric. The style is rounded and friendly, built on just two colours: white and plum.

At 65 × 70 mm, it suits a small Halloween tote bag, a zip pouch or the front of a child's sweatshirt. On knits, use a cut-away stabiliser with a water-soluble topping so the white bandages stay crisp. A dark background, black or aubergine, makes this machine embroidery stand out.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 3 threads: white, white, plum. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: white → white → plum → white → white. The machine stops at each thread change (4 changes, 54 trims).
  4. Allow about 22 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 12,187 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
