About this design

Little Witch shows a small girl with long orange hair under a tall plum pointed hat with a golden buckle. She rides her broom with her cape flying behind her, pink cheeks and a happy smile. The style is graphic, slightly pixel-like, with bold outlines and a palette of plum, burgundy, orange and white. It measures 69 × 71 mm, uses 8 colours and takes about 23 minutes.

This compact size works nicely on a pencil case, a trick-or-treat tote bag or a small autumn cushion. On light fabric, cream or grey, the plum tones stand out clearly; use a cut-away stabiliser, as this machine embroidery is fairly dense.

How to stitch it

  1. Prepare 8 threads: plum, burgundy, orange, white, gold, pale pink, gold, salmon. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
  2. Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
  3. Stitch the colours in this order: plum → burgundy → orange → white → gold → pale pink → gold → salmon → burgundy → gold → gold → orange → white → plum. The machine stops at each thread change (13 changes, 42 trims).
  4. Allow about 23 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 11,220 stitches in all.
  5. For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
