About this design
Highland cow shows a cow's head seen from the front, with a long reddish fringe falling over the eyes, two wide white horns, a beige muzzle and a small pink flower tucked to one side. The style is graphic, with bold black outlines and strands drawn one by one, like an illustration.
At 68 × 69 mm, it sits nicely on a tote bag, a pouch, a bib or the front of a sweatshirt. On knits, use a cut-away stabiliser and keep the fabric well hooped. A light background, natural or soft grey, lets the russet and black of this machine embroidery stand out.
How to stitch it
- Prepare 5 threads: salmon, black, white, beige, pink. The names give the closest shade; pick the one you like in your thread brand.
- Hoop the fabric in a 10 × 10 cm hoop with a stabiliser: tear-away for woven fabric (cotton, linen, canvas), cut-away for stretchy fabric (T-shirt, sweatshirt, bodysuit).
- Stitch the colours in this order: salmon → black → white → beige → pink → black → salmon. The machine stops at each thread change (6 changes, 30 trims).
- Allow about 21 minutes at 700 stitches per minute, 11,697 stitches in all.
- For another size, open the design in the studio rather than enlarging it on the machine: the stitches are recalculated and the density stays right.
